Do you know a budding young poet who is bursting with creativity and a love for peas? To celebrate this year’s Great British Pea Week, we’re inviting children across the UK to put pen to paper and join the fun in our nationwide pea-themed poetry competition!
Whether it’s a haiku about the harvest, a sonnet to supper, or a rhyming ode to the humble green gems – if it’s all about peas, we want to read it!
WHAT’S UP FOR GRABS?
WHO CAN ENTER?
The competition is open to all children aged 5-11 across the UK. To enter, simply:
There are no strict rules on style or format- it could be funny, heartfelt, or just plain pea-silly! The only requirement is that it is bursting with pea-themed passion.
WHY WE’RE CELEBRATING
This year marks the 10th year of Great British Pea Week, a week dedicated to shining a light on the amazing work of the UK’s frozen pea industry. Did you know that over 2 billion 80g portions of peas are grown in the UK each year? All harvested in a whirlwind 6–8-week window, and frozen within 150 minutes to lock in freshness.
To celebrate, we’ve launched this competition to get kids to think creatively about food, farming, and the journey their favourite green veggie takes to reach their plate. It’s a chance to combine healthy eating with imagination, and where else can a child’s poem earn them a place on a giant pea harvesting machine?
HOW TO ENTER
Simply submit your entry to yespeas@hatch.group by Sunday, 31st August 2025, including the child’s name, age and location, as well as an image of the child. Please include ‘Pea Poetry Competition’ in the subject of the email.
So, if you know a young wordsmith with a love for peas, now’s the time to give peas a chance!
