1. How long have you worked in the pea industry?
I worked in the industry for 3 years and have loved every minute. I still find it fascinating to think that the peas in my freezer have been carefully grown, harvested and frozen by our wonderful growers and freezers, still as delicious as the day they were frozen.
2. How did you start?
I worked within Agriculture previously but within the dairy sector. It has been quite a change to come over to the Veg side – but I love it.
3. What does a typical day look like for you?
My role varies through the seasons, but in general I will speak to growers and ask for updates on the year’s crop. I’ll also look at organising our campaign planning meetings.
Within my role I look after many other fruits vegetables as well as peas (though peas are my favourite), so you can often find me talking basil, parsnips, strawberries or lettuces throughout the day.
4. Which three people would you invite to your dream dinner party and why?
Firstly, I would have to invite Alanis Morrisette, my teenage self would never forgive me if I didn’t. I was very cool.
I would also invite Stephen Fry, he is witty, intelligent and ever so kind. I think he would stay and help with the washing up after too.
I think lastly I would Queen Victoria, a great example of a strong independent woman. I could also make her a Victoria sponge – how great would that be?!
5. What is your second favourite vegetable? (Obviously peas take the top spot!)
I would have to say carrots, they are great for dipping into some Pea Hummus!!
