GREAT BRITISH PEA WEEK TURNS 10: HERE’S WHAT MAKES FROZEN PEAS SO SPECIAL

19 June, 2025

This year marks a pea-nomenal milestone, as Great British Pea Week turns 10!

First launched in 2015, this annual celebration has been championing the mighty frozen pea for a whole decade. From the 7th-13th July, we’re honouring the hard-working frozen pea industry and inspiring the nation to make the most of this small but mighty green veggie.

So, if you’re wondering why peas get a whole week of celebrations, here’s what makes them so special!

A 10-year legacy of nutrition

For ten years, we’ve been shouting about how peas punch above their weight when it comes to nutrition. Low in calories, but high in fibre, protein, and essential vitamins, peas are a small but mighty addition to any diet. Did you know that just one serving of freshly frozen peas contains as much Vitamin C as two large apples?

A decade of versatility

Over the years, we’ve seen peas make their way into everything from soups and risottos to dips, pastas, and even served on toast! They’re quick to cook and belong in lots more meals than just as a side dish. If there’s one thing we’ve learnt in ten years, it’s that peas can do it all.

Supporting British farmers, year after year

For a decade, we’ve been proud to support the 700 British pea farmers who harvest the nation’s peas with precision and passion. During the six-week harvest season, these heroes work 24/7 to harvest, shell and freeze peas in under 2.5 hours! Plus, with 90% of our peas grown right here in the UK, buying frozen peas helps keep British farming thriving.

10 years of greener growing

Peas are one of the UK’s most sustainable crops. They enrich soil health, support biodiversity, and leave behind zero waste during harvesting – all pea pod and vine remnants are returned to the earth. Choosing frozen peas means backing eco-friendly farming and a greener planet.

A freezer favourite for ten years

Frozen peas have long been a freezer staple, and for a good reason. They’re available year-round, have a long shelf life, reduce food waste, and are always ready when you need a boost of green goodness. Convenient, practical, and delicious, it’s no wonder they’ve stood the test of time.
