Young Pea Chef of the Year 2020

The Young Pea Chef of the Year competition, run in association with The Ocado Foundation, encourages young chefs to get their thinking caps on and create a sweet or savoury dish in which the frozen pea is the star!

Anyone up to age 16 can enter the competition, which is now in its fourth year, and schools are encouraged to get involved. Children are judged in three categories: Primary School up to Year 6 (age 4 – 11); Secondary School Years 7-8 (age 11 – 13); and Secondary School Years 9-11 (age 13 – 16).

From more than 200 entries to 15 finalists, this year’s competition was a tough judging process for the panel of industry experts, including TV chef Rachel Green and representatives from the Ocado Foundation, Beeswax Dyson Farming, East Coast Viners and Greenyard Frozen.

The winners of the 2019 Young Pea Chef of the Year are:

  • Lochlan Hammett, from Consett in Durham, with his Stripe-Pea Fishcakes with Garden Pea Mayonnaise
  • Leon Woolley, from Stroud in Gloucestershire, with his Pea, Mint & Ricotta Ravioli with Sage Butter and Parmesan Crisp
  • Keira Martin, from Wrentham in Suffolk, with her Spiced Pea & Potato Roll
